Has anyone started discussing our new vehicles with their insurance companies yet?

I sent an email to my ins.agen,asking for a ballpark figure based on the elios specs.. No reply.
Sat. Morning I went for a quote on-line @ GEICO..while running through the options , Elio motors was incl. In the drop down menu for "manufacturer" but not for type or model of motorcycle. My quote ended up being $2370/Yr.

12 month total policy premium $322.75 that's what i got when i did it. Not so bad but I am sure its not exactly accurate.

Those rates seem very high. I currently pay under $60/mo and I am fully insured even though I probably should not be. Besides, those rates are close to 1/3 the cost of an Elio. Some how that simply does not equate! :-) Z

Full coverage on my 1997 Mercedes SL500 is only $43 a month and book value is twice the Elio. That's with State Farm. My Harley is also about the same also with State Farm. My 24 year old son on the other hand spends $190 a month for a 2006 Mazda 6. This being in Indianapolis " The Capital of Auto Racing " But officer I wasn't tailgating I was drafting.

You're right Z, It doesn't add up. That's because Ins. co.s don't "yet" have a vehicle to cover. Several weeks ago (IIRC), someone mentioned asking EM about insurance rates, and was told "not to inquire yet."
It is just TOO SOON.

I will have to find the source however I also remember EM asking us to refrain from contacting the insurance companies at this time as before production they would be collecting all the pertinent information and submitting it to the insurance companies for review.

Whew! I would have a heart attack if my insurance company quoted me that price. Are you under 26 or whatever age they now determine "mature" enough to qualify for decent rates? You don't have to answer that since you have chosen to not disclose your age. It amazes me the number of men who have taken that choice. What are you guys ashamed or afraid of? LOL This is a $6800 vehicle! I think it is best to let it rest until Elio has proven itself so they can give you viable quotes. After all, that may be the price for a hand built prototype. LOL :-) Z
