Without an ammeter you gave to be careful of the current drain on your car's battery when using an inverter.

I messed up and shut off the engine while charging seven big Li-Ion batteries. . . and the catnap i planned turned into a couple of hours. I had to get someone to give me a jump just to leave the location for the night because my car battery was soooo dead.

Here's an article on how someone adapted his Volt so it could be used for camping in summer or winter.

Cool! Makes me wonder if I could "stealth-camp" at a charging station in my Leaf. Especially if I find myself homeless, I'd definately rather live in the Leaf than a gas car (free charging stations are pretty common around here!).

On an Elio-note: I wonder if you could park two Elios back-to-back, with a small custom tent, and sleep between the trunks? If it was possible, you might be able to sleep 3 people between two Elios (provided you have rooftop carriers or saddle bags for other camping supplies). At the very least a kid could do it :D

Great idea! There are a number of makers of car-tents that are custom fitted to a number of SUV's that range from the small to a big tent that could sleep four or five:

That would be nice for camping, or just a day at the beach. The only problems involve where to carry the tent when folded, and once encamped, how to make a run to the icehouse without striking the tent.

Forget the tent! I envision a 2' wide "tear-drop" trailer, with a slide-out on one side. Sleeps 2 and will have adequate storage for my gear. :p :D

Of course camping out of your Elio might require you to add storage space. My solution is to use the existing back seat for gear and strap on additional passenger space.

Thrown over the hatchback, it's simple, practical, and even decorative. Texas appropriate too! Yee-haw! :becky:

It might be a little rough directly over the center rear tire. Therefore, spurs are recommended.:yo::rolleyes:
