the worst thing that can happen is if it's .9 liter engine does not prove it's merits in the freeways (quick lane changes, quick merging) then it could be our side street car for grocery shopping or for taking me to our local golf course

I wouldn't be worried. The Elio is on target to have a 0-60 time about the same as the original Porsche 911.

I always wondered about that 0-60 time at 9.6 seconds; so I looked up my 2008 Nitro with a 3.7 V6 and it says 10.2
I never thought the Nitro was a slug, it's got some "perk" when you go to merge into freeway traffic.
Knowing that, I feel a lot better about the projected performance of the Elio.

I think anyone that is wondering what that 9.6 feels like, look up the stats on a current vehicle in your possession and compare it.

Sooo, looks like the Elio will be faster than my current daily driver (1996 Toyota Rav4 @ 10.4s), but slower than my wife's EV (2012 Nissan Leaf @ 7.9s). Sounds good to me!

EVs will usually have good 0-60 times. Plentiful, full power band torque from the electric motor will do that.
