No official word yet. We are getting some indications from Elio sources that dyno testing may have begun but we will just have to sit tight and wait for them to show us something via official channels. Hopefully they won't make us wait too long. :D
So glad you're back goofyone! Hope you had a great vaca! Hopefully testing has started & it's running as anticipated...OR BETTER! :)

in the wondering about it category :

1. the motor being tested is reported to have steel sleeves in the pistons .... if it does really well, I wonder it that might change their plans for using the flame spray ??

2. if they stay with flame spray, will they re-dyno the motor prior to production ??

Guys, could you explain the following: everybody is waiting for the engine status updates (that's probably the main thing that will either make or break this car), there is obvious nervousness among Elio enthusiasts, the weekly number of reservations is going down, and still it is as if EM guys don't see all this... Why don't they provide frequent engine updates ? Instead, they are opting for tons of other, much less relevant news.

in a way, I hope that it is running but that we don't hear for a good while .... it would be great to eventually hear that the new motor has passed thousands of hours of testing with flying colors ..

Jim

Ah, the voice of reason, thanks Jim. Two thousand hours after a Nov 17 start would put us into Feb. 2015, so might be in our best interest to not wonder and be anxious. :-)

Hi Mike, welcome!

Yes, there are so many aspects of the Elio that we want to know about just as soon as humanly possible. And we can tend to wonder why we don't get more frequent updates. But we've learned that Elio Motors will announce things long after they have been achieved and all is a for-sure. And the more transparency EM gives us, the more we want to know.

I can't imagine Elio Motors paying much attention to our nervousness. :) And the reservation numbers have been manipulated by EM back in August when they publicized in late July that the 50% bonus for all-in deposits would end Sept 1. 36,000, going strong, EM feels good about their investors, they are waiting to hear about the ATVM loan which results may not be available until March or April, who knows.

Hang in there Mike!

What we have been told is that this engine is sleeved, and does not have variable lift, to keep it simple and give the engineers a good baseline for comparison. I am sure the engineers will compare testing results and make any changes they determine to be necessary.

We should keep in mind that the testing we are currently waiting on is merely the first of many dyno tests in the engine development process. Over the next year IAV will be doing a lot of testing with various prototype engine configurations to achieve the desired engine performance and longevity goals while keeping costs as low a possible.
