A person asked on a Facebook post by Elio Motors, "how do I find out what shipping [an Elio] to Tennessee would cost?"

Here is the article that Elio Motors suggested, thought I would share:

It just occurred to me... sounds like Elio Motors is going to use this model for destination charges for a car, even though federally the vehicle is currently considered to be a motorcycle. Not a big deal, just an observation.

The article does say that the manufacturer will still charge the fee even if you pick it up at the plant. IIRC, we are thinking it's a possibility that Elio Motors will let us reservationists pick it up for free.

Here is a link I copied from facebook, provided by Elio Motors in response to a poster who inquired about destination charges. It is a very interesting article provided by Kelley Blue Book on how destination charges apply to new vehicles regardless whether you pick it up at the factory or not. Good read. Here is the link.

All the major auto makers make a profit on delivery (charge more than their costs). I believe I heard that Elio does not intend to profit from the delivery process, but to sell a car for $6,800 they will have to recover costs or they will go broke.

Talked to an EM rep in Columbus. Said shipping will be just north of $400

just a reminder to those who have never ridden in a roadster, several hours in one is not the most comfortable. As I am apprx 4.5 hours 262 miles from plant, I will pay shipping costs. The bonus 50% takes care of that.

The Elio has the seat out of a Ford Mustang. I have a friend here in Ohio, A Nam Vet, him and his 59 year old wife drove to Sturgis last year and back on a hard tail. The Elio is no hard tail.:)
