Here's a question to the people who have actually seen an Elio up close and personal; and especially anyone who got to open the door and sit in it:

How much space was needed to swing the door wide open?

I just saw the photo that ctfink just posted, noticed the location of the gas cap, and suddenly flashed on something that happened this last weekend when I got fuel. I have to be careful of how far I pull ahead sometimes, because I've had times when I couldn't get my door open due to safety stuff the station had put around the pumps to make it harder for someone to hit them. With the location of the gas cap on the "passenger" side, it means you don't have to worry about hitting the fuel pumps getting out of your car.

Yeah.. The door is like any other door on the planet. You don't want to pull right up against the pump. But, luckily, the fuel cap is on the other side of the car so you can pull right up against the barriers and rub some paint off the polls and STILL be able to pump your gas. I mean, if you can manage to wedge the pump handle out between your Elio and the pump you have it parked so close to. Actually, it won't be a problem then either because the front wheels stick out far enough tha even with the front wheel up against a wall, you should be able to squeeze out.

one difference .... unlike standard configurations, the Elio door will be indented the distance from the side of the vehicle to the outside of the front tire .... given the same gap between the widest part, you should be able to open the Elio door a bit wider without hitting whatever its parked next to

Where I fill up at Sam's Club (whaaa) they have their lanes marked as to the direction you are supposed to pull up to the pump. I am not sorry, I will pull around and go the "wrong" direction to fill up rather than wait in line when the correct opportunity presents itself. Slays me to see vehicles 5 deep waiting in line to go the designated direction when you have 4 lanes empty going the wrong way.

Elio will be AWESOME to occasionally have to fill up with good old petrol!
