I commute 130 miles a day and while on the road I try to envision driving in the center of the road with the right door panel as close to me as the left door is. Yeah the things you think about while on the road. While driving home the other day, I made some observations:
In the HOV lane, they have diamonds painted in the center of the lane to alert the drivers that they are in a restricted lane. I noticed that, without fail, the cars were not centered in the lane. They were all running with the left tire pretty close to the left yellow line, and the right tire was running over the painted diamond. I don't know why this was. It could be that unconsciously, the drivers are staying away from the traffic and more towards the berm of the road. It just made me wonder about being in the center of the car. If it will be easier to stay in the center of the lane when you are in the center of your car. The diamond should go right under you as you drive.
The things you think about while in traffic...
