What I'm trying to weigh is if the Elio will be the kind of car that you retire at 150k miles or something that could be a true iron butt buster. It took a 344k miles to kill my Prius... could the Elio top that? Thoughts?

I agree that you are probably one of folks who will end up letting us know much about the longevity of an Elio .... I also agree with the suggestion to upgrade the seat and go with cruise control .... its clear from the mileage you have gotten from previous vehicles that you know the importance of maintenance .... in your case, the mileage limitation will kick in way before the time 36 month warranty period kicks in .... with all of the unknowns involved, it would be nice to be able to purchase an extended warranty but I haven't heard anything indicating one might be available

Hah thanks for the replies. I guess after running so many cars into the ground seeing them as disposable just becomes a thing. I'll do everything I can to keep my first one on the road. I just really hope we're not talking 3k interval on the oil changes. The Mini does 10k intervals and the Prius was 7k. I had an Aveo before that which was I believe 5500k interval.

Otherwise it'll be really interesting hitting the shop every couple of weeks for oil changes. :-D

from what has been stated, the engine and transmission share a common oil supply which necessitates a short change interval .... no clue how much oil it will hold .... this is just one area where I'm looking forward to much more specific info

o_O Hmmm...Never heard of such a thing. The tranny and transaxle for sure (which is not the case on my Suby), but I would think there'd be different friction requirements between the engine and transmission. Please enlighten me.

I'm sure someone who actually knows something will jump in .... the way I understand it is like a motorcycle where the motor and tranny share an oil supply .... that could certainly be way off base and if it is, we should know rather quicly

The tranny and engine sharing the same oil is a commonality with motorcycle engines...most of them are that way, however, I've never heard of an automotive engine sharing it's oil with a tranny, in fact I'd like to know where JEBar heard that the Elio would be like this...I'll be absolutely shocked if it's true. I could maybe see the Elio engine sharing it's oil with a manual tranny, but I don't see how that would work in the automatic...

Wow, 5500K is a very long OCI! Might run into some sludging problems there! Lol!

as noted early on, please don't take anything I think I remember as being fact, I could easily be way off .... the search feature on this forum and I usually experience a failure to communicate .... as best I can recall it was during a rather lengthy conversation about the differences in the standard manual tranny and the optional auto tranny
