Elio Fan
Im a little sketchy at the moment because money to me doesnt grow on trees. I will still probably invest in this thing sometime soon just might need a little more persuasion because of my finances and circumstances. I love the idea of this thing and if it were a car on the road today getting even 60mpg for this price I would sign on the dotted line immediately. But as we all know because it is just starting the p5 and the crash tests and such that its still an iffy bet. I want this thing to go through all the way and hope it succeeds because I need a car like Elio.
My current work situation will be shifting here in a couple of weeks once I get permanent status. And once that shift occurs I will be doing alot of miles on the road over a weeks time. 55.7 miles one way to work and back equals 111.4 miles every day that my poor little 97 Hyundai with 250k miles on it probably wont be able to keep up with. With an estimated 2228 miles a month coming my way I am getting more and more nervous about breakdowns vehicle repair costs or even the cost of a new vehicle. This is where the Elio would literally save me.
For one I rarely ever drive with more than just me in the car since I am a single male in his late 20's and all the friends have their own vehicles. So having only a two seat car makes sense. Two the gas mileage is a duh in this situation and needs no further explanation. Three the fact that this is a new car and will have a warranty at such a cheap and affordable price is another no brainer. It would save me thousands on the purchase of yet another crap older car that has no warranty and such. Hell just the savings in vehicle repairs for 36k miles would save me enough money. Fourth I was thinking about just getting another motorcycle for work but again this wouldnt work as I work in Security. My uniforms have to look nice and neat without any sweat (I live in Arizona) and my hair has to also be neat kept meaning no helmet hair. Having an enclosed vehicle is a must for a commuter car and having AC in the heat of the Arizona desert is just one of those things noone should live here without. And last I would like to say that this car would drastically help in the credit department. One area that I have royally screwed up and would like to fix before I am too old to ever get credit again.
All in all I would like your guys opinion on what I should do. My father already thinks the Elio will possibly never be made (probably from reading some of the negative comments online) and hasnt really swung either way himself at the moment. But I want to know what others would do in my situation? What made you just jump and put forth your hard earned money into this cause? Again I love the idea and love the car and the concept of an affordable, new, economical car. But is this too good to be true?
