This is where I really appreciate the $0.75 it takes me to make my 36 mile each way commute in a Volt (it wouldn't be so cheap if my parking garage didn't have outlets they allow me to use for no extra charge).

And yet, I am in line to burn gasoline in my Elio. I'm not coming for the mileage. I just like it.

In Northern VA we now have toll lanes on our major highway"95express lanes" in order for me to get to work in a decent time I pay $5600 per year. If the Elio gets classified as a motorcycle I will have a instant savings of $5600. I'm praying!!

I drive 45,000 miles per year .I buy a Ford Fiesta every two years .The old ones are given to the grandchildren who go to college .

My wife and I currently have 3 vehicles.

1. my beloved 2005 Sunfire. She refuses to drive it. Says its a piece of crap and she can't get in and out of it easily. 240,000 miles and I deliver pizza and commute 130 miles a day 5 days a week in it.

2. 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan. My wife's van more or less. 175,000 miles she commutes maybe 12 miles a day plus running kids around. some underbody rust appearing but mechanically sound.

3. 2005 Cadillac Escalade. the spare for towing our little pop up for now and road trips. 130,000 miles.

My wife dives our 2006 F-150 (150,000miles). I drive a 2003 Dodge intrepid (280,000miles). Hoping the Dodge will hold out till I can pick up my Elio.

all to well understood .... for 2 months short of 10 full years I commuted 70 miles one way / 140 miles round trip to work .... when I transferred to a job only 22 miles from home, I felt like I didn't have much of a drive at all
