Rick, I repectfully differ with the your use of the word "millions" if you're talking about the U.S. market alone.

'Murica still loves it's SUV.

Remember, it's just my opinion.

I've been following the i-Road EV autoscooter as long as the Elio autocycle. Toyota is on their 4th Generation i-Road prototype and has a fleet of 40 test vehicles in last mile ride share programs, and recently completed testing for everyday use by average drivers summer of 2015. I expect, as a result of those user reviews, a 5th generation production prototype will be revealed soon. If available in the USA I would buy it in a heatbeat as an urban commuter for the sheer fun of the driving experience and use my Elio as a suburban commuter. A BUT to the AND vehicle..............I could drive the Elio, BUT since it's a short trip I'll take the i-Road instead.

Toyota has road toured the USA's auto Circuit Events and the i-Road has received amazing reviews by test drivers everywhere.

Yes, seriously. It may not meet your personal needs, but it will meet the needs of millions as a personal urban EV commuter and according to drivers the most fun driving experience they have had behind the wheel of any vehicle. You obviously aren't the market demographic Toyota is trying to reach with the i-Road autoscooter concept.
Power is a little anemic but I'm always on the lookout for new technology so yes, I'll buy it!

I think it's going to be a long time before these get certification to be sold in the U.S.
With a rumored sticker price of 10k - 12k, who in developing countries is going to be able to afford them?
I estimate that at the max speed of 37mph, the range would probably drop from 31 miles to about 20 miles.
Demographics? It appears that even the Elio is having a hard time appealing to young U.S. urban commuters.

I am all about getting the most bang for the buck. I live 5.5 miles from work.
None of the speed limits on the streets or roads on the way to work exceed 40mph.
Most of my errands are on the same roads.

I seriously doubt that my place of work would let me plug in to their outlets.
I seriously doubt that my place of work would let me park close enough to plug in.
I would have to make sure that I plugged the I-Road in at home every day.

I'm 62 years old. I've described my own demographics.
I've described young U.S. commuters' apparent lack of attraction to new 3-wheelers.
And the Elio is even an inexpensive 3-wheeler with full contemporary automobile features!
There are 50cc scooters that put out close to 5 horses.

So, imagine, if you will, piloting a 660lb. I-road being pushed by a 70cc scooter engine with a 20 mile range.

There is just no way that the I-Road is a good deal and MHO is that...

At that price, without major upgrading, these things will fight an uphill battle.
