And, the first Elgin dash.I don't know about that, but at least Mr. Stout got the gas cap on the correct side.

IIRC, the end of the Scarab came when the head of the investment group bankrolling the project died one night when the car flipped over off the road and hit a phone pole. The police determined it was an engineering error, which basically killed the project.
Years later, an investigator determined that the real cause was that someone (who had been drinking) in the oncoming lane swerved his car to get a better look at the Scarab as it was passing, forcing the Scarab off the road where it flipped, etc. (In the days before safety belts, that guaranteed you died.) The "someone" was a member of the local city government and a friend of the police, so the police report covered things up and simply listed this person as "the first person on the scene."

might need to stretch the engine compartment for a larger engine to handle the additional weight.
