That and keeping the cost down by making it that way. It really is a one person vehicle that happens to accomodate 2 people pretty comfortably. My pickup is a one person vehicle that costs a fair amount to keep running. At this point it's cheaper to keep it than spend thousands (earmarked for the Elio) for a car of lesser quality but maybe gets better mileage that the PU.One of the primary reasons the Elio will be so wildly successful as a 2 seater commuter is that 90% of the time there will be only one person in the Elio......so it's a very little inconvenience for the driver having to exit for that occasional rear seat passenger.........so it seems.
Convenient to have the pick up handy when needed. I missed mine when I sold it but rarely used it as a functional hauler........more as a second vehicle. Now I rent either a truck or trailer when needed......or hire some to haul the heavy loads which is both money and back saving. That and keeping the cost down by making it that way. I forgot to mention that we downsized to a condo and most of the hauling of big or heavy stuff (bark chips, dirt, new lawn mower, moving family, friends, us) is now behind us. If we really need to, we can rent for what we need or pay to have it hauled. Cheaper in the long run than what we put into truck fuel and upkeep.Convenient to have the pick up handy when needed. Sure be nice if the seat would automatic slide forward when pulling back on the backrest to give more room to enter and exit the rear without having to manual pull the seat forward.
We went the low maintenance lifestyle as well.......from a single family home on a 1 acre lot to a high rise condo. Best move ever even though a little sadness when selling off my pickup, trailer, and riding John Deere Mower. No regrets with plenty of garage space for my Elio.I forgot to mention that we downsized to a condo and most of the hauling of big or heavy stuff (bark chips, dirt, new lawn mower, moving family, friends, us) is now behind us. I think of it more as a coupe. Most of them have the back seat empty most of the time and require the front seat to empty first to get in and out as well.Think of it as the equivalent of a 2 door car only with just one door.Z
