I agree and can't help but wonder what Honda was thinking!
They were thinking "Wow, Toyota is selling a crap-ton of Priuses. We should copy them and sell a crap-ton ourselves!" That did not work out very well for them.

No it did not. I always thought Honda was an innovator not a copy cat er.They were thinking "Wow, Toyota is selling a crap-ton of Priuses. We should copy them and sell a crap-ton ourselves!" That did not work out very well for them.
Didn't the Insight come out BEFORE the Prius?
You sure were. Sorry about that, mate. The G1 Insight was sold around the same time the original Prius back in 1999/2000. We were talking about the G2 2009+ Insight, which was restyled to be what looks like a clone of the Prius.
The G1 was the first HYBRID exported to the US. The TOY came the next year IIRR.
I was at the G2 Insight unveiling in Torrance along with 24 other G1 owners. WE ALL complained that the G2 was called an INSIGHT, and it did look like a TOY PIR. Bottom line, they are to different cars, but both HYBRIDS.
