THIS ISN'T REALLY A COMPARISON OF THE VEHICLES SO MUCH AS THE TIME FRAME .
THE ELIO IS A MODERN CAR & THIS ONE IS A BRAND NEW ANTIQUE .

THE CAR HAS ALREADY HAD THE BODY FITTED & FINISHED .
THE OTHER PIECES ARE STILL AT THE PAINT SHOP GETTING A COAT OF TURQUOISE .

I AM AT THE STAGE WHERE YOU TAKE IT APART FOR THE 10th TIME
AND PUT IT TOGETHER AGAIN IN A (HOPEFULLY) FINAL ASSEMBLY .

STEERING WHEEL AND DASH ? IT HAS THOSE TOO !
IT HAS A CONVERTIBLE TOP FRAME BUT I HAVE NOT HAD THE FABRIC SEWN YET .

IT IS TITLED AS A 1959 MESSERSCHMITT . THERE WILL BE NO AIR BAG OR AC .
AND THEY ONLY EVER HAD ONE DOOR THAT FLIPS UP AIRCRAFT COCKPIT STYLE .

THE MOTOR CAME FROM A HONDA z600 COUPE THAT WAS 600 POUNDS HEAVIER ,
COULD HIT 85mph AND GOT FUEL MILEAGE WELL INTO THE 60+mpg RANGE .

MY CAR IS 8" NARROWER AT THE WIDEST POINT AND WITH TANDEM SEATING
CUTS A MUCH SMALLER HOLE THROUGH THE AIR .

YOUR BENCHMARK OF 70mph & 70mpg WILL BE A PIECE OF CAKE .
OH YES , IT HAS HUB CAPS & A SPARE TIRE TOO .

What EM have achieved so far are prototypes while you're finishing up on your hand built "one off" labor of love. The ELIO is at a stand still until funding is found while your work is progressing continuously so what can I say, hands down you'll be enjoying yours way before the Shreveport plant gets noisy with activity. So... if you are to sell your creation, taking into account your total expenses and man hours, how much will you price it???

That looks great!! I have a project or two and I really like it when I see people finishing theirs. I am stalled a little on mine for the last 5 years. Hope to get back to the restoration of my 1964 Ducati and the completion of my 1975 Sonerai Stretch 2. I will be retiring in a couple years, and maybe things will change where I can spend more days in the Hanger.
Congrats again and keep posting pictures. The workmanship and the detail look very nice. Good on Ya.

THE REAL TG-500 IS A BIG MONEY CAR THESE DAYS .
IT TAKES $100,000 TO LAY YOUR HANDS ON A RESTORABLE EXAMPLE
AND HALF THAT MUCH AGAIN FOR A NICE ONE .

I AM NOT THE FIRST TO TRY RE-CRATING THE CAR BUT WITH PRICES LIKE THAT
AND JUST 130 KNOWN SURVIVING CARS THAT RARELY CHANGE HANDS ,
BUILDING MY OWN VERSION WAS MY ONLY OPTION .

SO I PUT MY SKILLS TO WORK . I USED THE HONDA z600 ENGINE BECAUSE IT
CAN FIT IN THE CAR , IS AIR COOLED AND ALREADY GEARED FOR 10" WHEELS .
IT HAS A FULLY SYNCHRONIZED GEARBOX AND 15 MORE HORSES THAN THE ORIGINALS .

MANY OF THE PARTS HAVE BEEN SOURCED FROM OVERSEAS AND I HAVE USED
ORIGINAL PARTS WHERE POSSIBLE .

I HAVE INCORPORATED A FEW OF MY OWN IDEAS .
MOST NOTABLY , IT HAS A TILTING TAIL SECTION . THIS HAS NEVER BEEN DONE
AND REQUIRED SOME CHANGES TO THE TUB & TAIL SECTION .
CABLE & SHIFTER ROUTING WAS A NIGHTMARE .
