So cool. Casa Grande, Arizona just landed a new car factory for Lucid Motors. Lucid is a Tesla challenger- 0-60 in 2.4 seconds and a in Elio's backyard. The attached video shows an Atieva (Former name of Lucid) with upcoming powertrain in a Mercedes Benz van named "Edna". Chief engineer developed the Tesla S. Superior platform of 400 miles per charge, 0-60 in 2.4 seconds, $65K. That's better specs than the top Tesla S and at a lower base price than the base Tesla.

It's easy to build a one-off vehicle with high specs. Unfortunately, the Model S is limited by the fact that it's a production vehicle meant for daily use.

That said, the van lost to P90DLs...so it's a ways off from competing toe-to-toe with Tesla's flagship vehicles. On top of that, Tesla is moving away from small-production, high cost, vehicles to focus on the mid-level market. Lucid won't be competing with Tesla, if they can even get off the ground.

Tesla is encouraging competition by releasing all their patents. If Lucid gets off the ground Tesla will likely be their battery supplier. A win win.

Tesla's long range goal was always to produce an affordable EV for the mass market. The Roadster, S, and X lineup were stepping stones to generate enough funding to develop their drive train, increase range and lower battery cost.

Thanks to the rich folks that could afford to buy the early Roadster, Model S, and X Tesla's.
300,000 Model 3 reservations to date. 180,000 Model 3's reserved within 24 hours of the reveal.
