If they had one transmission which could they choose? Making auto only transmission would raising the price to about $9500 which would deter a lot buyers and investors. Having a standard transmission would keep the cost low, but lots of people are unwilling or unable to drive standard. The auto should be a big source of profit for Elio because it does not cost much more to make and they are charging $1000 for it.
Point taken but it still would reduce inventory cost and production cost.

Your right about the colours. With four colours and two transmissions that makes eight variations. Not sure how hard it is to change colours. I used to pick up freezers from a company that could change brands in about five minutes. If the freezers were already in the box they cut two holes in box. One to change badge and other to change owners manual/ warranty card. They only had one competitor making the brands that they did not make. They even made the competitors brands when needed.

I'm just wondering if we only had one color and one transmission would that help speed up the production and increase the profit. Could that result in and earlier production date?
The answer is probably no. ElioMotors decided to make the Elio a production vehicle, to be made on a production line. As long as the line is set up right, extra colors or other options mean only minutes or seconds delays.
A few Examples 1. Unibody 2. Stamped steel body 3. Elio Motor 4. All the Elio exclusive parts.
The Elio is designed to be done en masse.
The only things that will result in an earlier production date is earlier production funds, and a swift kick in the ass.

Not much. Adding a station or three because of offering a second transmission doesn't add time to assembly but does add to personnel costs. But, 6 employee salaries divided by 250,000 vehicles adds negligible cost.

Since the transmission is part of the engine assembly, it should impact only the engine assembly line, not the vehicle assembly line.
