They don't need 50k engines to start production. Just a few thousand will do to cover the first builds until they can get a new batch delivered.
Come on man, you know Rickb is just trying to be nice and want to make sure all 50K reservists are covered! Hey I could care less if they only have 5K engines ready to install mine included! :D There now you fellas know where I'm at!

I know that, but there needs to be an engine manufacturing facility with trained employees ready to crank out batches of engines as needed. The engine manufacturing process may be as or more complicated the manufacturing the Elio itself.
I agree. I'm assuming that the build process will be mostly automated to produce large numbers in a short period of time. So unless the company has been producing 3 cyl. engines, then they have the lines set up for that, if not, then it'll take more work than just re-programming the robots for the task! I don't know how I came up w/ that since I've only seen it done on "How it's made"! :D

Thought I'd put this up. It's a 4 cyl GM engine build, but similar process.

Hope this gives a clue for people who have never seen it.

Hurray, another fan of "How it's Made". I also like "Rescue my Renovation"!

I'm addicted to "Hows it made". I would like to see how "automation" is made.

In the words of a Cylon trooper from the old "Battlestar Galactica" ..... By your command......

and a little bit more (which also explains why COMAU is doing the line setup)

and a little about programming

Hope this is useful to you and explains why COMAU will be setting up the plant and why it makes no sense to hire people until Elio gets the word from COMAU.
