"You can add one more state to the places where you can't register the three-wheeled Polaris Slingshot for the road. Connecticut had already decided that the trike didn't fit its definition of a motorcycle, but the company tried again anyway by taking one directly to the DMV headquarters there. The government officials took a look and came away with the same ruling on the vehicle – it's just not a cycle by their criteria."

"According to a Polaris press release posted on Slingshot Forums, the company is still working with Connecticut, Hawaii, Indiana and Maryland to get the trikes classified in the US. However, this announcement says that the earlier problem in Texas is now largely resolved with just the matter of how to title it. Previously, the Lone Star State said a motorcycle must have a saddle-type seat arrangement, not chairs like the Slingshot."

If they can get it classified as an "AutoCycle" they will be good to go as of 7/1/2015

Steering wheel, seat belts, foot controls and federal automobile safety standards.
I am certain federal auto safety standards are not included, required, or even possible for an autocycle classified vehicle. If EM had to meet federal auto safety standards we wouldn't be seeing the Elio on the roads for an even longer period of time with so many Federal hoops to jump.

Elio production vehicles will meet the standards. Air bags, crumple zones, etc.

No, Elio will meet their own standards, claimed to be equivalent to automotive standards, but will not be subject to any gov. or independent testing. This is the least of our concerns at this point.

From Consumer Reports:

"So how do you get the most critical safety features without breaking the bank? Here’s what to look for:

The most important thing is electronic stability control, which has proven to be statistically the most effective safety advancement in cars since seat belts. ESC helps drivers keep the car on the road in emergency situations. And staying on the road goes a long way to keeping the car from rolling over or spinning into a tree or a telephone pole, which are among the most dangerous types of accidents. A car with ESC will also have antilock brakes and probably traction control, since they require all the same hardware components. ESC became mandatory in 2012, but most cars began to include it earlier as standard equipment.

It’s also important to find a car with side and curtain air bags. Since there’s much less space between the edge of the car and passengers in a side collision than in front or back, side air bags form a critical buffer. Curtain air bags, which cover the side windows, can also help keep passengers inside during an accident, a critical safety benefit.

Any car with curtain air bags and ESC will also have front air bags, which became mandatory in 1999...."

SORRY... I was just repeating the safety statements that Paul Elio has been making, about the production model.

By the way... What is your reservation # ?
