A question to our neighbors to the north: Do Canadians (in general) get their undies in a bundle about %Canadian content like Americans do with %U.S. content? Just curious.

That may have been the case in the 70's and 80's when Protectionalism was strong on both side.

Got so bad here in Canada when the Govetment realized that aftet closing down our Steel Factories and Gasoline Refineries we had no choice but to get our product from the USA. But then when the US closed down many Steel Plants we both needed to get out steel from China.

I believe most of us Canadians consider our neighbours to the South as our Brothers and Sisters and I as well as many othet Canadians dream of the day that the Border between USA and Canada can be removed.

90% of what I watch on TV is American content (some is actually filmed in Canada). The remaining 10% consists of watching our Local News and Canadian Business News BNN

Anybody remember Due South? Absolutely hilarious comedy about a straight-arrow Mounty, terminally nice like all Canadians, thrust into seedy Chicago. Haunted by his father's ghost (a drunken trapper who died in an avalanche, as I recall), he is lonely, broke, and lovelorn -- but absolutely hilarious. It ran 3 years or so, and is on DVD if you can find it.

I spent a bunch of time in 1968 working out on the Gaspe, teaching French to Africa-bound Peace Corps volunteers who were teaching English to the Quebecois kids. Loved the place, especially Quebec city. Then in 2010 I spent about 3 weeks exploring the gravel roads of Alberta, NW Territories, and the Yukon. Loved the place, but OMG the prices -- 25 to 35 percent higher than in the States (and the dollar was 1 for 1 at the time). Gas was $4 to $5 per US gallon (well over $1 / liter).

Even my trip last month to the Canadian Rockies was wonderful. Cannot speak too highly of our neighbors to the north! Gas was $1.19 per liter, though, (but the Canadian dollar was 75 cents on the US Dollar, which was good) so I really could have used an Elio!
