The only way the electric car makes it is if some one else is paying for it. Same with solar. The supporters will argue it but just the way it is. Same with many Hybrids. The Hybrid I own I did not buy because it was a Hybrid but in spite of it. The car fit our needs for other reasons.

This site says ALL electric car manufacturer are losing money. That can't be true, is it? http://myersev.com/

Yes and no.

Many EV's are compliance cars being built by auto manufacturers that also build other cars (Nissan, Chevy, etc) and those manufacturers are still in the green. They're just not making much/any money on their EV lines.

Of the two EVs not being sold purely as compliance cars--the Nissan Leaf and the new Chevy Bolt--they are both being built to make money. The Leaf is turning a profit on it's own (although sales are in decline), and the Bolt is making back a loss by selling CAFE credits.

Tesla is in the red and has been since the beginning, because they are still a new business and have been heavily invested in startup infrastructure; they are not losing money on every Model S sold, but they still hold more debt than they do income.

And yet people act like Elio is the only car start-up who is operating in the red...
