I notice in the picture from Charlotte that the Elios coilovers are what looks to be the same color as the car. I wonder if that will be true of all ? I would think they should be black or red if not. I've found that red goes with about any color of car, that is when painting the brake calipers.

That is a good question. Those were actually added just a few months ago and as they are adjustable will not be standard items but instead they will be options so they very well could be available in colors to match the vehicle. It is my understanding that the stock nonadjustable coilovers will be black to match the rest of the suspension.

Why might someone want the option of adjustable coil-over springs versus the standard non-adjustable? Also, if the springs are changed would that mean the shocks should be changed to match the new springs?

There are actually two adjustments which can be done with these units provided by Peterson Spring one is to adjust the ride height of the vehicle and the other, as mentioned by Mrtoycrazy, is using compressed air to adjust how firm or soft you wish the suspension to feel. These adjustments would affect both the look of the vehicle and the handling. Most people will not care at all about these adjustments so that is why this is an option.

Elio Motors Tech Talk about these springs and a few other details: http://us6.campaign-archive2.com/?u=24b371802c83d81776b06aa68&id=22e1c0b584&e=c308373d2f

Unlike conventional vehicle setups coilover shocks are designed as a unit with the shock and spring working together so they are changed together.

Once the spring rates and damping are worked out,in a production model, due to cost( these shocks are big bucks on a motorcycle) you will not see an adjustable shock absorber as standard equipment.
All the talk about racing development is spawning the talk of this vehicle being a performance newcomer.

IT IS ALL ABOUT ECONOMY ! If you want to go fast/race... get a different vehicle.

Going to have to respectfully disagree. Man, will hotrod and race anything. Ever seen lawn tractor or rototiller races? Or how about chainsaws with dirt bike engines so you can cut through a 24" log in 2.2 seconds. There will be Elio racing, and there will be people driving their 'stock/economical' versions to the races to watch them run. :D

Pretty sure I've seen a video of a chainsaw with a V8 for that purpose, actually. Haha. And I'd definitely watch such a race. I think the low cost (pre-modification) of an Elio may very well attract a fair share of racing enthusiasts.
