Rolling coal now illegal in New Jersey (much more info available at the link) .... do you think this is a law that will spread across the country ???

"There are often complaints of gridlock in the US legislative system, but if you make the right person angry, apparently things can be accomplished surprisingly quickly. Less than a year since New Jersey State Assemblyman Tim Eustace had a pickup roll coal on his Nissan Leaf while driving down the New Jersey Turnpike, Governor Chris Christie has signed a law making the act illegal there.

Eustace introduced his bill shortly after the pickup belched soot on his Leaf. New Jersey's S2418 (full text, here) now specifically "prohibits retrofitting diesel-powered vehicles to increase particulate emissions for the purpose of 'coal rolling;' prohibits the practice of 'coal rolling.'" Those found in violation are subject to a fine by the state's Department of Environmental Protection.

Rolling coal is popular with some diesel pickup truck drivers. They can spend somewhere between several hundred to several thousand dollars on modifications that make the truck belch towers of black smoke on command, all for the apparent pleasure of leaving fellow drivers or pedestrians choking on a cloud of soot."

I disagree that this should be illegal. However, I also don't think it should be illegal for us to shoot them, so my opinion probably shouldn't count.

Idiots, Truett? I love your polite way of calling a man that works for a living a name.
Aren't you against name calling?

Gotta wonder how long it takes to totally screw up your diesel by dumping large amounts of excess fuel through the injectors to cause that "blackstacking". I'd like to believe that there's some serious maintenance cost associated with "rolling coal".

Besides in New Jersey, that practice is pretty much illegal by federal laws:

"It is a violation of the [Clean Air Act] to manufacture, sell, or install a part for a motor vehicle that bypasses, defeats, or renders inoperative any emission control device. For example, computer software that alters diesel fuel injection timing is a defeat device. Defeat devices, which are often sold to enhance engine performance, work by disabling a vehicle's emission controls, causing air pollution. As a result of EPA enforcement, some of the largest manufacturers of defeat devices have agreed to pay penalties and stop the sale of defeat devices.” (EPA website)
