    Hi Folks,
My interest in the Elio was 1) support a fresh idea and 2) fill a need for efficient (and fun) xportation for runs to town. Currently I run a 4WD F250 with it's gas guzzling V10. Some runs to town don't need such a rig and the Elio should work. I had to scrutinize the set up as to whether it would handle the trail in and out until I get to the county road. I think it'll do just fine so a $100 commitment was a non-issue. The trail is actually a logging road for 1.5 mi., quite steep in some places and rough the whole way so the Elio would be for the dry season only. The unit will surely get some rock dings and the suspension will probably start squeaking within the 1st year, but we'll see. The front wheel drive is what convinced me, however, I'd love to see a limited slip option.
Maybe the Elio team would want to do a case study? Anyway, I'm hoping the delays are less of a problem and looking forward to good news.

    Best,
    JRH

Is your road a two track with a big hump in the middle? The Elios behavior on a gravel road is my only concern about it. We get two big windrows of gravel on our roads and 4 wheel vehicles straddle them. I think that slowing down will keep me from having problems but I don't know.

Well Sir I'm a bit irritated. I missed how this forum posted messages and replys so I'm a bit tardy but I am gritting my teeth once a week at the fluff updates. At this point I am awaiting:
    1) a notification of delivery and payment options or,
    2) a letter from a class action attorney.

My gosh, sending these fluff emails to reservation holders is insane.

    Sigh,
    JRH

Gravel? No such fortune. Years ago the logging equipment mashed boulders and stones onto the road bed. My gosh this is not like a country road in the plains. This is a logging trail. Haven't you seen the TV series? But its been many years since those critters have been around so it's really settled and except for a few humps, it's not too bad. The Elio would make it fine going slow.

    Best,

Wonder how an Elio would look with a winch on the front. It's light enough though that maybe a block & tackle would work also. Just need something to hook onto. I also think that removing the back seat and converting it to a pick-up would be handy.

From looking at the chassis, you could make a 2” receiver hitch for the front and just have stick out right above the bottom lip of the radiator opening. There are two frame rails in that area.

For the pickup idea, just cut it behind the front door all the way down to where the body kicks out. Then remove the rear seat and weld in a few sheets of steel for the bed. After that, get a camper shell made and it would look like an El Camino did when it had a camper shell on it. Mounted to the camper shell, a couple of mounts for crossbars.

Plus you could mount another 2” receiver hitch that would stick out slightly below the license plate.

With that, all of your fishing gear in the back, a winch on the front, kayak on the roof and a swing away box on the rear that houses a cooler full of beer. Then you have the Elio, ManCar edition.
