So, you are saying it's OK for half the money you are spending on oil changes is going to recycling and not to your bills or fun stuff.

Just like carbon credits, I will use your money going into recycling, to off set me, spending the money I save on 7K oil changes for fun stuff. Thanks:)

3k oil changes nowadays is literally the equivalent of stacking your money and lighting it on fire

Indeed. I change mine every 3k. That oil gets recycled - who pours used motor oil down the drain these days? And a gallon of oil every 3k instead of 7k probably has the polluting potential of two extra 20 mile trips over that timespan. In fact, keeping tire pressure at optimal levels can probably save more fuel than one "wastes" in an extra oil change, yet we don't get on each other about that.

Flame wars on the battlefield of to-change-or-not-to-change have destoryed cool forums like this, sown tremendous enmity, and likely pre-date the internet. Let's not go there, eh? If any of you can find me an automotive chat site where this has NOT be discussed ad nauseum, please provide a link.

Here I go, relying on my memory... IIRC, the deal with the Elio 3k oil change was that the clutch was going to share the engine sump oil, i.e. a wet clutch. If you'd like to look in on it, here's a good place to go for oil information: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

there was a good discussion of the shared sump oil a while back and I can't find it .... I'm glad to see that someone else remembers that conversation
