It's personal preference... some will say no backup camera is needed, others will say it is needed. We've had lots of discussions about no rearview mirror, the angle of the sidevew, etc. Plus I've seen a picture somewhere of a tour employee standing behind the P4 and you can see them in the sideview mirror. The P5 sideview mirror looks to be bigger than the P4. But, some will still want the backup camera, which is understandable. :fencing:
A definite advantage of a back-up camera is the wider "field of vision". Many times when parked between 2 TANKS.....er SUVs, a camera will allow you to see what's coming down the aisle.

As far as the back-up camera being needed, it depends on what it is needed for.

It is not needed to back up the vehicle.

It probably is needed for good mass sales.

Formerly, Santa Monica was a bohemian community that was environmentally and socially conscious, welcoming the homeless. It has since been gentrified and is now an expensive upscale community. While it does not welcome the homeless like it formerly did, it is still environmentally conscious. This may have something to do with the Elio being in Santa Monica. Also, it is a community that is into being chic and trendy and can you think of any other vehicle more distinct than the Elio? I suspect a significant person in Santa Monica saw the Elio at the LA Auto Show and invited them to display in that town.

Santa Monica is a good place to show the Elio. It is just the thing for trendy people. I suspect it will be a hit and draw reservations. Elio Motors may even be invited to set up a store in Santa Monica---if they can afford the rent.

I suspect Santa Monica is by far, the most upscale location it has ever presented itself. This may be important to the image and prestige of Elio Motors. There is a big difference between Santa Monica Place and a Pep Boys parking lot. They should not muff this.

Maybe they can get Woody Harrelson and Ed Begley, Jr. in there for a photo shoot.

Something to keep in mind at Santa Monica Place:

While parked in front of Nordstrom, they should not embarrass themselves by talking of price.

One may be forgiven in front of Bloomingdales

This is a place where people's excrement is not negatively aromatic.

I just returned from seeing the Elio on display at Santa Monica Place, Santa Monica, CA. I saw it at the LA Auto Show and thus it was no surprise to me, nor did I ask many questions. I asked a tour person who had been at both the NY Auto Show and the LA Auto Show, which show had the most number of people interested in it. The person concluded the NY Auto Show had more interested people but felt that was due to placement and the LA Auto Show being split up into two buildings.

I heard two people talking about the Elio in a separate conversation away from the display. In my conversation with one of them, he expressed confidence the vehicle would be built but not by the planed dates.

One of the tour persons emphasized that Paul Elio had said the vehicle was no longer a question of “if” it would be produced but a matter of “when“.

This is the first time I have seen the Elio in pure daylight and it’s color seemed different (but still great).

I have seen overhead views of the Elio before, but this time it seemed longer. Perhaps because people were around it for comparison.

The Tour Team was its usual great self. I suggested after Detroit, they take a vacation--perhaps a road trip. I have rarely heard such laughter.
