Like it or not, regardless of who is voted in year to year, regardless of it's shortcomings, the government makes things work. Perfect? Naw. As many are fond of saying, ours is the best system in the world. It's an imperfect system in an imperfect world. Let's make sure we use it and get the help and approvals needed to move the Elio forward. Here's to government involvement in our lives and the Elio it will help to make!

A DREAM that will be realized only BECAUSE of GOVERNMENT support and involvement. Local Shreveport, The State of LA, and the Federal. There are Government Regulations controlling our industry and Elio Motors has a VP of GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS to work in 'harmony' with GOVERNMENT to make some changes. I'm working with my local State Senator to sponsor legislation to change the current MC licensing and helmet requirements. He was unaware of the Elio, but impresssed when I showed him the specs and is working to get it done as a result of the contact. Government can and does work when the right people are involved in the process..............both politicians and constituents.

Rickb,
I think maybe you read more into my statement than I really intended.

IMHO; Some forms of Government are necessary. However, now that you mentioned it, my point is that a Socialistic form of Government is not necessary, nor is it conducive to the success of ventures like Elio. Does "You didn't build that" sound familiar.:(

I applaud you for your involvement and wholeheartedly agree with your statement, "Government can and does work when the right people are involved in the process", but the word "politicians" always scares me. There are a number of sincere Local Officials, I prefer to call them Officials, that are indeed working for the success of Elio in Shreveport. They know, all to well, the value of a US company with a tenacious commitment to US JOBS, not bailout or dole. They obviously don't want their city to become another Detroit ghost town.
That's good Government! Good support, good involvement, and Good Business!

Oh, and btw for those that want to know. By definition, a Loan is not a Bailout. Websters: Loan; " an amount of money that is given to someone for a period of time with a promise that it will be paid back". Bailout; "the act of saving or rescuing something (such as a business) from money problems".

:oops:Down off my soapbox now. I promise not to delve further into the dreaded politics debate, so the Moderators don't have to do the unpleasant part of their job and throw me out. :)

My response was to your simple generalized statement relating to the Elio............ "a dream that will succeed without government.....".

You also general referance the "you didn't build that" quote as well. Read the entire quote. You take it out of context as it relates to the fact that we all have help in some form or other along the way to success. It shouldn't make you frown. It puts a smile on Paul Elio's face and mine.

Paul Elio is not building the Elio alone, but rather engineering, designing, and assembling the Elio with lots of help............using off the shelf parts developed and built by others who had help along the way as well. I have had much help along my way and take little credit for the few successes I've had in life. Generalizations add to the confusion as does speculation.
