Yep, that is how ALL gambling "institutions" make their money, with one exception. The one-armed bandit in the Space-Quest game. You had to win money to pass that point in the game, but the 'bandit' machine -on the average- was set to pay out less than it took to play, as would be normal. So how do you progress? You needed 100 units to buy a ticket to leave the planet. To start play you walked around and found a quarter unit on the sidewalk. Which only appears when you were out of money.

The answer was that you 'must' cheat. Save the game each time you win on the arm-pull. When you lose, reload back to a saved game, That was the only way out, lol. :-) Very poignant lesson about gambling, and survival in a 'wicked' environment. In my words, you are only safe if you don't go there in the first place. (Do as I say, not as I do, eek!)
