As of August 21, the marketing people of Elio Motors are calling the 25 engineering vehicles that they are building roughly at the same time, ALL of them... as "E1" vehicles.

From the Aug 21 blog: "The E1 vehicles, E for engineering, are vehicles that we will use to move the Elio from a prototype to a production vehicle. The vehicles will be built with production in mind, and unlike the prototypes, will all be built basically at one time. The current plan is to build around 25 E1 vehicles."

Seems strange to me, go from P1-P5 for 5 prototype vehicles, to naming 25 engineering vehicles collectively as E1.

Thoughts and implications? Much ado about nothing? :car:

In short, they are all the same, whereas P1 - P5 are all different.

Jeff I think the difference is the fact that all of the prototypes were completely different from each other. The E series will be basically identical. I think the P5 chassis is being built to verify all dimensional, stress and nondestructive inspection prior to the addition of more of the external assemblies. Once they're satisfied with P5 chassis then identical E1-1 through E1-25 can be built. If a major problem is encountered and corrected it might be E2-1 through E2-25.
