Okay, since it appears Shreveport has about as much exciting stuff to do as my town, here's my plan 'A':
"Assuming" an Oct. delivery date [emphasis on 'assuming'], take two weeks off, and spend a full week in Gulf Shores, AL...already got the place picked out [view from the porch below]. Then cruise up to Shreveport (about 7 hours) and take delivery. Grab some dinner and a hotel for the night. Head up to Memphis, TN,...probably spend a couple days there (Wife's a BIG Elvis fan...gotta check out his museum). Leisurely drive up to St. Louis. Should end up with a couple days before I have to head back to work to let my rear end recover.;)

Plan 'B':

Still doing the Gulf Shores rental in Oct. for my better half's birthday, and "whenever" my Elio is ready to go, hop a one-way morning flight to Shreveport, square up on my Creamsicle, and make a run for home (detour for some BBQ...Hey, gotta eat!).

Chicago to Shreveport, staying at hotel. Looks like a boring town so hopefully they'll give us a tour of the plant. Maybe meet a few Eliowners and compare options installed and such. It'll be a long drive back, lots of photos will be taken. And I'll get to test my Elio's connectivity while riding through rural areas.

Last time I was in Shreveport was about 30 years ago I purchased a nice set of boots. We just are not into casinos and horse racing. The ride of us just to Shreveport is a 2000 mile round trip. The trip down from here is nothing exciting. We talked last night and are seriously considering rerouting our trip to Eastern TN and along The NC. boarder. There are a lot of Cool water falls to see and you can not beat the roads for riding.
We put between 4-5,000 miles on when we take these trips to old to waste one on a trip not worth taking.
Guess I will see the plant when my ELIO is ready to come home.

I'm considering, besides plan "A"- fly-in, drive home
Plan "B"- have it delivered to my kids (Seattle), fly-out to them (from South FLA) and drive it home.
Wait.
You live in Florida. Would have the vehicle delivered from Louisiana to Washington State. Then fly out and drive it from WA to FL? Is there a story behind this plan?

Shreveport itself may not be too exciting but then again I do not need much time there as I will likely arrive the night before my factor tour/vehicle pickup and leave the day after. Which way I go after that depends on how much free time I have and the weather/time of year.

If I do not have much time then I-20 is a straight shot 600 miles back to Atlanta; Can I make it on only one 8-gallon tank of gas?:D. If I have more time to meander then it depends on weather, if it is warmer then up into the mountains I go and if it cooler then I will head towards New Orleans and take a gulf coast drive before turning back north towards Atlanta.:)
