Those guys are just jerks.

Yes, they are being douchebags with the loud horn, but putting that aside, having a loud horn can be useful and could prevent having someone run you off the road.

About a year ago I was driving in a Ford Expedition, which is a pretty large vehicle. As I was driving in the HOV lane, a car swerved into our lane, and I layed on the horn..... He didn't hear it, and kept on moving into the lane, forcing me off the road..... Had I had a louder horn, it would have alerted him that someone was there, and kept him from cutting me off....

This would be much more important for a smaller, low profile car like the Elio.....

Just because something can be abused, doesn't mean that it can't have a legitimate use too.....

Oh boy, a new way to be an a** hole on the street.

Just because something can be used in a bad way, does that mean that you won't use it?

There are plenty of examples of things that can be misused, and cars are just one of them.... If a bad guy runs someone over with a car, are you going to totally avoid cars ? Of course not. The same goes with having a loud horn. I would never do the crap that you see in the videos, because I wouldn't want to risk having someone get pissed off and throw a rock at my car, or worse. At the same time, if someone doesn't see me in their blind spot, which is bound to happen to most people that drive Elio's eventually, I'd like to have a horn loud enough so that they can hear me.... Regular horns often don't cut it, especially if the driver is listening to loud music on their stereo.

Since my daily drivers have all been little cars for the last dozen years or so - RX-7's and first gen Honda Insight - I totally understand and agree having air horns is useful. When I install them I wire them in parallel with the factory horn. Since it takes a half-second for the air horns to wind up, I can still give polite little "beep-beeps" when appropriate, but run the big guns when needed.
These are appropriate air horns: http://wolo-mfg.com/horns/air-horns.html

Also agreed. The legitimate place for train horns is. . . on trains. There is no legitimate use for 150+ dB train horns on a road vehicle.

I don't mind if someone uses a loud horn, my motorcycle has an aftermarket horn that makes a car horn sound like a tin whistle. My bitch is with a horn that sounds like a train. I've actually experienced someone using one of these on the street and it is very disconcerting, you immediately think there's a train somewhere.
But I guess it's all in good fun, hey, maybe we will be able to buy a police siren next.

Ohhh.... ok.... According to you 123db is ok, but 150 is not ? ? ? Since when are YOU the authority on what is acceptable, and what is not ?

123db is pretty loud, but I didn't know that was the "cutoff" for "appropriate".... Thanks for enlightening us all......
