No MSRP for Elio. We call the pricing PEP. Paul Elio Pricing. I have to get ready to go swim so you will have to search for that to find out what it means. Be thankful I don't have time to tell you what I really think about MSRP. Z

Speaking of the automatics, another example of anecdotal evidence that we don't know what to expect is to take a look at Honda. They have gone against the norm on their new accord and the automatic msrp is the same as the manual, (oddly, the auto gets better gas mileage than the manual) hopefully Elio will be somewhat like that.

First, Welcome. And yes, EM has mentioned that the "AMT" will (probably) get better mileage than the manual tranny.

Last time I saw any thing on base price, Paul said they had it down to $7300 if it were built right now but they were still working with suppliers. Every state has different vehicle purchase tax as well as license and registration fees. Delivery fee would not be part of the cost, if we pick up at the factory and set up fee should be minimal. Still I would be happy with anything under $10000 as that still saves me money over the cheapest new car on the market today and more than double the savings in MPG.

Most people do not realize just how expensive new cars are today and how much this helps Elio Motors. The fact of the matter is that the most inexpensive new car available for sale in the USA is the 2014 Nissan Versa Sedan with a manual transmission which has an MSRP of $12,000. This car is rated at 31 city and 40 highway MPG. Even if by the time it enters production the Elio base price has risen to $7500, the nearest lowest priced vehicle will still be over 30% more expensive while also delivering about half the fuel economy of the Elio.

Nissan currently enjoys having the marketing benefit derived from offering the lowest priced car in the country however they know that most people will want an automatic for an extra $1K and to control prices they can manipulate the market by limiting the number of these base models they make and make sure to only produce them early in the model year so they do not have to be discounted later. Because of how Nissan controls this model dealers are assured that they will not have to sell the base model for under $10K, and the automatic for about $11K, plus destination, dealer prep, taxes and registration fees.
