That may be a viable option in the future, but until Elio establishes itself, they will need showrooms for people to experience it for themselves. Caddy has the reputation to sell vehicles this way, Elio is still a newbie.

I think you may have just come up with the CURE to bypass the Texas Auto Dealership Lobby.

Set up Elio owned Viewing and Test drive stations. But offer no direct SALES there. But then offer Internet access to Elio through a virtual dealership based out of state. It could be the Factory or the Corporate Office in Arizona(?).

Avoid State tax as an interstate sale and get your test drive and hands on experience. That will work as long as interstate sales are tax exempt.

Sorry Marshall but it doesn't work that way. You have to pay the tax whenever you get your tags and registration at your county tax accessors office. Texas also has a $90 import fee for vehicles purchased out-of-state and brought into Texas. Not sure if that applies to new vehicles but I know it does on used. No getting around it Big Brother is going to get his money.

Skygazer is correct.
Same deal going from Oregon to Washington; Oregon doesn't have sales tax, but WA does; when you go to purchase a vehicle in Oregon, you'll get it with no sales tax, but when you bring it into WA you have 30 days to have it get a free inspection at the State Patrol, and then pay $56 for that "Free" inspection plus the sales tax here when you go to get your WA plate.
I'm going to have to go through this because the OR Elio store is 30 miles away, the WA Elio store is 180 miles away.
The tax will get collected one way or another.
