With a projected curb weight of 1250 pounds, most of which is up front with the engine, what would the rear wheel be carrying? Just curious how long before we see video of someone picking up the rear end of the elio and moving it around on the front wheel pivot point.

Has been stated by PE the front end weight will be approx 70% ....875 lbs , rear 375 lbs

Sure, but will it drift?

With only the one wheel out back, sort of. It depends on what you call drifting. It will not keep up with the RWD powerhouses, but with sticky tires up front and a hard rubber high mileage tire out back I bet you could swing it around pretty good. I would not want to play around with trying to, though, in case the Elio gets flippy like the Slingshot when it gets turned backwards.

Here is a FWD Prelude that uses suspension tweaks, tire combo, and e-brake to approximate drifting:

If my 5 ton F350 would drift, I'm certain the 3/4 ton Elio will drift under high winds. As long as the drift is correctable and you don't lose control, it will be alright.

ps That reminds me of an offhand comment from yesterday. The target weight is 1200 lbs. while the P5 is about 1600 lbs. They are still looking to reduce weight to get to the target fuel efficiency. I'm not sure whether the P5 has the new composite material or not, but that could reduce that 400 lbs. significantly if it is not. I'm almost certain the MPG simulations are based on meeting the weight, power plant efficiency and air drag targets.

The P5 has a fiberglass body, not the production composit.
