What Vehicle Are The P4 Headlight Pods From?

Elio parts are supposed to come from other vehicles where possible. Are the P4 headlight pods custom or from some other vehicle?

I searched by no joy.

Having seen them in person its evident they are not production quality and are prototype pieces

The P4 lights are indeed custom pieces. It is my understanding that even on the production model the plastic housing and lens will be custom made however the actual light and reflector assembly itself will be off the shelf.

This is a standard way of doing things for OEM suppliers today and should not really add cost. EM will need an external housing and lens for the lights anyway and I am sure the cost of tooling to produce these items is minimal compared to the number of items produced. This is also likely an important aerodynamic element at the front of the Elio vehicle so it is important to have the correct shape for the headlight lens.

Motorcycles are required by law to have their headlight on all the time, and if one filament burnes out, it automatically switches to the other filament.

Therefore, I assume the Elio must also have this characteristic. It is still a motorcycle and the federal government will probably not classify it as an autocycle until they see Elios in significant numbers on the road and the company appears to be stable. Are they providing for a headlight on/off switch for the future?

No in all states. This is a state by state requirement.
