Funny, as my Harbor Freight trailer is 129# dry, with the plywood deck and car top carrier, add another 20-30#. Yeah, I REALLY see 300 plus pounds. It's called math. add it up.

Brian, you got me to researching... Not that I need a trailer that small, but here's one example of a motorcycle trailer (it looks very do-able even if it doesn't follow the Elio flow):

http://www.openroadoutfitters.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=90_93&products_id=201

Here is the main info:

Clipper
Starting at: $1,795.00
At 12 cubic feet, the Clipper is the smallest and lightest trailer in our lineup. Tipping the scales at just 110 lbs, the Clipper can be pulled by any size motorcycle, yet carries enough for one or two people on an extended run.
Like its larger brethren the Route 66 and Kadette, the Clipper is manufactured by skilled labor here in the US. Dexter Tor-Flex axles underpin a strong hand-laid fiberglass body with shock-proof LED lighting. The Clipper will easily manage any road, trouble-free, mile after mile. The Clipper is equipped with fender flares and a light bar as a standard feature.
The Clipper's cargo box is designed for maximum efficiency, allowing you to pack as much gear as some larger trailers with less efficient designs. Add a tongue-mounted cooler and you'll be set for a road trip of any length.
Clipper Standard Features
  • 110 lbs empty weight
  • 500 lbs axle rating
  • 390 lbs cargo capacity
  • Gas-assist lid props
  • Locking, waterproof cargo box
  • 8" wheels with high-quality trailer tires
  • Floor carpeting
  • 100,000 hour all-LED lighting
  • Fender flares and light bar

We will all find out together how well, or not so well, this all works out when these vehicles start rolling off the assembly line and people start towing with them.

I want a trailer so I can take my Elio on an extended road trip or a camping trip with two people on board. I am planning on towing a lightweight trailer such as this one which only weighs about 150 lbs empty and I doubt I would ever put 150 lbs worth of gear in it.

Oh but I was talking about a real trailer..Just kidding , didn't mean to sound rude..I honestly did not know that there was a trailer under 200 lb on the market..

I have mine made, but going to substitute the plywood deck with diamond plate aluminum for strength, plus it looks good. I was going to underpin it, but decided not to because of drag. I just need a better car topper, as mine have all been given to my FIL, plus I want one that opens from the back.

^this, I have a light 4'x8' trailer that is under 200#, a 6'x8' that is around 500# and a heavy duty utility trailer the is around 1450#. I have NO issues towing either of the small trailers behind my FWD VW Beetle when loaded and I even move the large trailer around town occasionally unloaded when it needs service or I'm in route to my f250. That's all with only 100hp and 107lb-ft of torque.

My bad, honestly. I didn't realize you meant something like a teardrop or other trailer.

This is a good point. I am most definitely not attempting to pull anything larger than the trailer I posted above as I already have access to full size tow vehicles and trailers I can use when I need them. I do agree it would be a very bad idea to overload the Elio and choosing a lightweight trailer then properly packing the trailer for good weight distribution will be very important.

That is the one I have picked out. I have already contacted the manufacturer with information about the Elio. I may be a year or more away from driving my Elio but I have no intention of letting the grass (or in my case, moss) grow while I'm waiting. LOL :) Z
LOL. That's funny. I knew you were either looking for a camper or had one picked out. How funny that the one I found is the same you were looking at.
