Seriously? The Gas Cap Has A Real Unmodifiable Reason To Be On The Wrong Side?

The gas cap looks to be on the right side... a day from traffic. Who runs out of gas any more? There is usually a gauge that tells you your fuel level. They aren't hard to figure out but I'm sure you could take a class or something about them if you need. Kidding, of course. Imagine filling up while your significant other is asleep in the rear.... in the VERY unlikely event that a fire.starts at the pump, would you rather have the only door in the car on fire or the side opposite the only door. I, for one, am not sure I could drag my wife out through the trunk.
Case closed! Next tread please!:D

Pumping gas into a car should be done from the drivers side, as should the fill tube. You drive up and get out right at the pump.
Having the tube on the R/H side means one has to drive up OPPOSITE the pump and walk around the vehicle to pump gas; makes no sense.

All Hondas are this way and I assume most common sense vehicles are the same.

Elios' gas tube is on the wrong side. The key point here is the driver should not be walking or dragging the hose AROUND the vehicle. The drivers' door and the gas tube on the same side keeps it simple.
It DOES matter w/Elio also. A R/H side fill tube means either the driver walks or drags the hose around the vehicle.

As far as running out of gas on the highway.......do we need the drivers door on the R/H side also?
We have 2 Fords and both are on the right hand side. Its all a matter of engineering.

YA know,,,
Like Zelio,
I've been driving a long time, and, I, living in the NE half my life. The snow, and cold
got me in the habit of using my gas gauge, half full/empty, as a reminder to fill my tank.
I never came close to running out, and never had to worry about dying from exposure
if I got stuck in a storm during those 60 mile trips to work or home. Make your half way mark your empty, and you won't have to think about running out of gas. In an Elio,
thats close to 300 miles of driving. "Discipline"

Many years in Alaska taught me the same thing.

I read the reason. It didn't make sense when I did.... Can Elio do a tech talk on why they couldn't put the gas cap on the safe side of the vehicle.
Yes the safe side... If you run out of gas on the highway you will be at greater risk of being sideswiped when you go to put gas in the vehicle. And the same issue will be present everytime YouTube gas in your EE, except in OR and NJ. You will have to get out on the traffic side and go around to the pump side to put gas in it, or get out on the pump side and go around to the traffic side....
Something as simple as putting gas in on the less exposed side of the vehicle and they had a 50/50 chance of making it the safer side.
This is not my comments.....I have a chevy cruze....gas cap on the passenger side and a chevy Colorado..gas cap on driver side....what the hell is all the concern?????....most cars have the gas cap on the passenger side.....you should never run out of gas if your gauge works....by the way the E on the gauge stands for EMPTY not EXTRA GAS.....

Seems to me from the available photos that Elio has determined that the right side of the vehicle is where they want to put the gas cap. It was on the left side and it moved to the right side. Someone mentioned at one time that they thought the reason for this had something to do with running the fuel lines on that side where there is no door to work around.
It is what it is.

It would be nice to have an accurate gas gauge for a change instead of stuck on F for the first hundred+ miles, E the last hundred+ miles, and falling like a rock in the middle.
One of my questions that got ignored on yesterday's blog was whether or not it would have a fuel computer. Half the fun of a fuel efficient vehicle is knowing what's going on. Current MPG, ETA to empty etc. It would be easy and cheep if it was going to be OBDII compliant, as far as I know they haven't addressed that yet. Which they should because it speaks directly towards serviceability.
