Been wanting to take a trip back to Las Vegas. I normally drive, so it'll be interesting to do it in the Elio. A lot of the road going there is wide open straight aways with hardly anyone else on them. My goal is when no one else is around (on the 10 mile straight aways) to get the car up to 95mph and see how she runs and what kind of gas mileage she gets.

Let me get something straight, as a new-car newbie (I've only had one brand-new car in my life, and I had to sell it four months later after I lost my job):

I've been given to understand that new engines need a "breaking-in" period, where you run it at minimal capacity for a length of time, then either get the oil changed or somesuch before you can start really using it. My scooter was brand new, with a carbureted engine, and I couldn't run it past 20mph for 100 miles before bringing it into the dealer to change filters and have them adjust things.

Yet all you guys are talking about driving your new Elio to TN or NM ... not insignificant distances.

So do the latest and greatest automobile engines with computerized fuel injection etc. still require a breaking-in period in order to ensure maximum engine life and efficiency? I'm sure the spectre of microscopic metal shavings wreaking havoc with pistons would still require that, but ...
