My current car has over 240K miles. I am finally starting to experience a few minor issues with it. I drive about 35K miles per year on that car. I would like a elio but not sure I will be able to wait out till production.

Maybe find a good deal on a used grocery getter in the mean time to commute with. I went with door #3. $200 month new car.I've seen three solutions to this very issue presented on this forum before:
Pick your poison. I really like the idea of a lease, but realistically if I need to make this choice I'll just end up getting a cheap clunker on craigslist. I'm pretty sure my current driver will get me to production though.
- Buy a new car, and forget about the Elio. (Not my favorite option, but valid all the same)
- Buy a cheap clunker that will last you a year or so, then sell it off to the scapyard once you have your Elio.
- Get a two-year lease on a new car to tide you over until the Elio is in your driveway.
