My only beef with the i-Road....

Why does it have two doors? That seems a bit excessive for what is essentially a weather-proof scooter.

Being electric, I can actually see these being used indoors by mall security, parking garage attendants, and on sidewalks of sprawling suburban outlet malls. When you stop thinking of it as competition with the Elio (because it's not) and start thinking of it as competition with the Scooter market, then it makes a lot of sense for anybody willing to pony up the cash.

I completely agree. Looks fun to drive cause it leans into the corners, but I think it is an entirely different market then the Elio. There may be some crossover but, my 120 mile daily commute to work will be much more comfortable in my Elio.

Maybe the iRoad can take the place of those golf carts in retirement communities!

Less than 40 mph, 30 mile range, proprietary parts AND special tires...
for only $10-12k?!

Wow! Where do I sign?!

Forget it Paul! It's over!
Your $6800 car that goes over 100mph with 672 mile range using normal parts is no match for this perfect machine!

Close up shop....

My sarcasm alarm is beeping. I almost slept through that.

The i-Road urban commuter 30 mile range covers 51% of all American Driver's Daily Commute Distance roundtrip. Seems to be a FUNctional high MPGe AND vehicle for a high % of drivers. Based on test driver grins and WTF reactions and it happens to meet your needs, drive it you'll like it........if or when available. Don't under estimate the power of Toyota engineers, designers, and marketing professionals. The last laugh may be caused by the fun I have driving my i-Road to morning coffee. lol

Just make sure you have a global cup holder or you'll be wearing that coffee. It looks like a fun vehicle but I wouldn't drive it on the highway. It isn't for me but I can see people who live close to large metropolitan area may like it. It would be easy enough to park.

I am a coffee drinker so the cup holder option is critical! Although, my current travel mug has a lid.

It's no way a highway or urban commuter vehicle. It's being developed specifically for the urban commuter market. I live in a small resort city downtown environment and most of my daily driving is around town errands so it would be a FUNctional AND vehicle that meets my needs.

Speaking of easy to park in small spaces:

I agree. Though I have deeper concerns with the ever more technology integrated vehicle. I don't mind periodically if I crash my iPhone, I do not ever want to be in a situation where a vehicle I'm in crashes for for similar reasons, or someone decides they want to digitally hijack my car. Luckily we've not had too much problems with this yet, but the time is coming when one will be driving their vehicle along it starts to run irregularly and "luckily" Smitty's iPhone and Auto repair shop will be close by that happens to have the patch/antivirus/fix for the problem. Imagine that. :D
I'd go for the Toyota network, hands over PeP Boys.
The day I saw the E, was the day I went 1k all, my thought at the time it was a 20k machine, --6.8+$500 incentives I'm there
When Toyota puts it out there, I'm in- even if the cup holder is extra. @15k OTD and being Toyota, I'd put 5k down for SIL
Retired, not commuting , single I just leased a RAV4, in six weeks I put 400 miles. This will be a better urban machine than the E. I know it's not for all, I did get a try on the three wheel scooter Piaggio/Vespa(?) and it was a tickle.
the toyota will more of a "bike ride? then the E.
I'm fortunate to have the resources, for some of my "Toys", and either one would be satisfactory. Which one will be determined by first available.
If/when the E does come to market, I think it'll be easy to flip my #7013 at a profit, if not, another reason I have kids.

I contacted my local Toyota Dealer to see if they could convince the mothership to tour the i-Roads for Ride and Drive events at dealerships across the country. I doubt anything will come of it, but who knows. You mention that it would be more of a bike ride, but auto industry connected test drivers say it's more like a cross between flying a plane, riding a motorcycle, and downhill skiing all at the same time and at only 37 mph............with big grins on their faces saying I'll buy one!

I would make a full payment reservation to Toyota to get in line for the i-Road experience.

By the time it hits US market, Toyota would have improved on the power and range. Sign me in.
