Thanks for the info...

But if Chuck really thinks that Paul Elio & Thomas Edison have similar visions...there needs to be a reality check! LOL

FYI...Inventor Thomas Edison created such great innovations as the electric light bulb and the phonograph. A savvy businessman, he held more than 1,000 patents for his inventions.

I appreciate and miss Goofyone's moderating style. He had the uncanny ability to state ELIOfactoids. He read all my posts and responded quickly and professionally without criticism. We may have even repectfully agreed to disagree on a couple of Elioissues. G1, thanks for your past diplomatic service to the Elio Forum!

At my Toyota dealer it appears that Toyota made/makes a "knock-off" Smart?
Then, it could stand to reason they could Knock-off the E-??

Physically, they can.
As a business model, they cannot.

Toyota (or ANY established vehicle manufacturer) cannot afford to make a cheap car, their business model will not allow it.
An inexpensive vehicle that doesn't have difficult to replace parts would cut into their profit per vehicle by 50-75%.
No "C" level executive will approve ANY product that decreases profit, let alone by that much.

Toyota's best response is the icar, and it is laughable.

It's the IQ, and in fact compared to the smart it blows the smart away

I couldn't cut and paste the review

makes it VERY clear the toyota smokes the smart

That's one opinion (two, including yours). But the numbers don't reflect it. Smart outsold the iQ five to one in 2014 (10,000+ to just over 2,000; couldn't find 2015 numbers) and the iQ is 20% more expensive. More proof? Smart just rolled out four brand new versions for 2016 (smart fortwo coupe, convertible, and EV, and the smart forfour available outside the U.S.). Scion? Closing shop, taking with it the iQ and other Scion models.

I guess consumers think otherwise.

I loved my Smarts (I've purchased 3 of them brand new).....but most of my friends just laughed at me...called them the "Dumb Cars"! LOL

Unfortunately...the Smart is not a joy to drive in heavy traffic & on the highway...it tends to be invisible to larger cars & pickup trucks...

Actually...both the Smart & IQ are not sucess stories in the United States...it just reinforces the reality of how thin the market is for very small cars in the states...

I'll be happy to Paul Elio can sustain 50K sales a year for the Elio vehicle given the market headwind's he faces with regards to small car ownership.

My Elio will replace one of my recreational weekend motorcycles...

Here's a photos of my recently sold '13 Smart Carlsson...the styling of the Smart is just so cool!
