I have problems with the word scam. People use it even when they don't think it is a scam.
So, it got me to wondering, is there a word that describes the uneasy feeling you get when you fear an endeavor might fail? So I googled it. I found this article. https://liminalspacesite.wordpress....aging-fears-while-embarking-on-new-endeavors/
I still don't have a word to use, but anybody have any suggestions?

I think the article really nails the feeling most of us have. From Paul to that guy who is saying scam.
Psychobabble ahead:

I think there are a couple things going on. First, there are those who are trolls. We've all seen them. Contrarian to the last, they thrive on the anonymity of the Internet, which allows them to fling their BS and "know-it-all" attitude to a broad audience with little or no consequence and with the potential payoff of being able to say "told you so" if any part of their conjecture turns out to be true (and again, no real consequence if it doesn't). "See, they're delaying it again for a couple months, just like I told you!" Even some online "journalists" (term used very loosely) succumb to this since it gives them a perceived air of authority.

For others, it's more nuanced. I would say for many, it's more a fear of new ideas or new thoughts (cenophobia or centophobia) or a fear of strange or foreign things (xenophobia). The Elio represents a new and strange view of the world that's unfamiliar to many people; I got such reactions often when I first started driving the smart, particularly from people who drive very large SUVs. The reactions were very irrational, as if my little smart threatened their way of life somehow.

Anyway, my two centavos.

And those same people who were crying "scam" last year can see that those same empty assembly lines are still just as empty, Elio is sitting on $17,000,000+ more of the people's money, and all they had to do for that was build one more prototype to keep the hype ball rolling. Should the E-series builds end up getting pushed back or the testing come back not so great and the ATVM loan application falls through, we could be here next year looking at the same empty assembly line praying for Q4 2017.

What I see is a risky venture, with Elio actually planning on and trying to make a real vehicle but that plan might fail. Others may just see it as a clever fellow stringing the public along for free millions. Only time will tell. Since Paul's background is in mechanical engineering and not finance, I put more trust in him wanting to actually make a product than milk the public for money. If he had spent the last 20 years running a small financial firm instead of a small engineering company, then I might be worried.

LOL, funny, I was just test driving used Smarts yesterday. I wish the older ones came with an MMT instead of the AMT, if so I would probably be driving one now. Still, very tempted to pick up a $5k used low mileage Smart to hold me over until my Elio is ready. As much as I love riding my motorcycle, when it rains, is under 45 degrees or over 100 degrees I start looking for something with a roof and climate control.

Something similar happens to people who choose to live in in tiny houses (<400 square foot). Because it requires a lifestyle that eschews the philosophy of "bigger is better", many people in "average" 2400sq.ft. homes have an almost violent reaction to tiny homes. Because on some level, if I can be happier than you despite having less, it is like I am insulting your entire way of life. (I don't live in a tiny house, but I've been researching the movement.)

and should it not happen, we've made a financial commitment to the future.
I know, and perhaps others, that the outcome is dubious, what I don't appreciate is EM forcasting milestones that fail to happen. I'm feeling EM is painting themselves into a corner again, publishing 4q 16. P.E. has not learned from putting stuff out there and not being able to deliver-" his crystal ball is still broken" (reference to statements made by P.E.)
This behavior dampens the project to outside eyes. We've learned to expect it.
Those outside eyes might be the big fish.

At my Toyota dealer it appears that Toyota made/makes a "knock-off" Smart?
Then, it could stand to reason they could Knock-off the E-??

If they did, then it would be:
  • Larger
  • Faster
  • More "standard options"
  • More expensive
  • Lower gas mileage
The Elio is attempting to head off any competition by being the cheapest one on the market. Should the form factor become popular enough to encourage competition, then you can bet those competators will be differentiating themselves by features, not by price or MPGs.

One word can't describe the feeling. It's more like people with varying degrees of thinking that the trike will be built or won't be built. The lack of progress updates (statements, photos, video) to verify the production schedule isn't helpful.

and should it not happen, we've made a financial commitment to the future.

I agree and that behavior is the cause of my frustration.........with no anxiety, tension, or negative vibe attached to that frustration. We've learned to expect it, but all don't have to accept it. I currently have transportation and a couple other concept options of interest, but others can't wait much longer before replacing a vehicle with the affordable Elio and are counting on EM to pull it off soon.

I just "Googled" Elio prototypes.

Hummm.......from Sept 6th, 2013, "25 prototypes are under construction in Detroit"!

Possibly a misprint ??????
