I used to like reading Jalopnik - that article was not helpful to those who would like to see the Elio produced, and in my opinion, was somewhat derisive.

Yep, I don't read articles there any more. It's 5 min of my life that I won't get back!

20M shares times $20 would be $400M... There is concern by some that Paul doesn't have N Angel invested or VC investor lined up but I think Paul knows that whether he got the money today or 6 months from now, they won't be able to speed up the start of production. Some processes just take time and while we wait, should he get fully funded by selling off major stakes in his company for what will be a small fraction of their eventual worth? One of the 2 co-founders of Dominoes Pizza traded his half of the business for half of a VW Beetle that he shared with the other co-founder. Paul probablydoesnt want to do that. Here's Ty's 2 cents:

Now that Elio stock can be bought and sold, Paul could get funding fast and easily by simply selling enough shares as he goes along to keep financially afloat. Of course, every time he dips into the stock well, he loses a little bit of the company so he will do that sparingly but WILL do that to stay solvent. There are probably investors waiting for opportunity to get in. While Paul meters out small bits of stock, he is also buying time for the AMTV loan process to work. Think about it - IF he can outlast the time it takes for the loan to come through (and if the loan actually comes through), Elio Motors shoulders the big loan payments which, in effect, is on OUR shoulders as owners of stock. Elio Motors benefits because the money will be there to go into full production and Paul gets to keep a huge stake in the company. It just makes sense to staying course at this point even if it makes us antsy.

Another question... They are making 100 at the Shreveport plant, right? They are going to use the assembly line there for the most part. What is to keep him from making 100 and then 100 and then 200 and then... Well, economies of scale, of course. But, what if he could get the suppliers to agree on starting off with small volume while still getting the volume discount? They could slowly ramp up production using the profits from each to ramp up further as they go. It isn't as efficient as building 500 per day but if they can make 100, why not 100,000?

When it comes to the Elio, Jalopnik makes no attempt to meet even minimum standards of journalistic codes of conduct and ethics. It's as if they invited anyone with a terrible dislike for Elio to come and write hit pieces that Jalopnik guarantees will be posted, no questions or research asked for or demanded.

Jalopnik never had much in the way of ethical standards anyway - the Elio coverage is one of many that substitutes "opinion" for fact in far too many cases, and whose journalistic code of conduct would get you flunked out of any community college in the nation.

BTW, Jalopnik probably won't be around much longer. As a member of the Gawker Media group (including Gizmodo, Deadspin, Lifehacker, Jezebel and Kotaku), they've just been hit with a $115M judgment in the Hulk Hogan case (seems fitting; live by the tabloid, die by the tabloid). And that's just the actual damages award . . . next week the other shoe drops, as the court awards punitive damages.

Nick Denton and company are a collection of elitist hipsters who have thumbed their nose at the legal and journalistic establishments for years. This time it's going to come back and bite them - hard. It's odd that after all of their arrogant mis-statements and outright lies, they are about to be taken down by a sex tape. That somehow seems appropriate.

I would hope that Gizmodo does a break away and either go independent or become part of another group, I've been following that site since it started. Love some of the new tech they report on before it comes out.

Agreed. Same with FoxtrotAlpha. I find their reporting on military-related stories entertaining and content-filled without being mean spirited.
