The only problem with simply cutting the top off is the total loss of structural rigidity. If you've ever compared factory convertible and non-convertible versions of the same model, the chassis is very beefed up on the convertible model to account for the loss of roof-provided rigidity.
Leaving the roll cage in place a la Jeep Wrangler style shouldn't affect the structural integrity as the body panels.aren't structural. Cutting the top, however, would probably severely weaken the structure. IMHO.

Thanks, as that is what I thought. I was just perusing Elio Wordpress and Elio Motors and saw nothing official, so that it was something someone pulled out of their fourth point.

By the way, Thank you for your service, and IMHO, the UH-1 was and continues to be the BEST helo EVER!! When Americans heard the "whomp-whomp-whomp" it meant deliverance. When the enemy heard it, it mean annihilation!!!
Nothing like speed roping into combat from a blackhawk. I liked the security of having two engines.

Ty: Huh? did You mean to say this both ways??? Are you a politician?!?!

No seriously, the OP was on the right track. The body panels only serve to keep you away from the road. If you want noise, wind & customize away!

Don't forget EM released a pict of one of the prototypes running around with no body panels whatsoever.

No. I was saying that cutting the body panels away wouldn't affect the structural integrity. The Jeep also doesn't rely on it's top for integrity (even the hard top version). I meant that as long as your cutting didn't involve cutting the roll cage, you'd be fine but that if you cut the roll cage, you would be asking for trouble. I wasn't being a politician. I don't even have any interns!

yeah if they cut the crash cage that is where they attach the panels it "may" affect the rigidity But right now none of us know that. And My reason for seeing if someone would photoshop the "convertible" in two/four different models was because with the upper section of the crash cage in place the structural integrity(rigidity) should remain the same.

I would like to suggest the name Eagle. Elio Eagle...Made in America for the American people...has this already been suggested? Also my shorter version E1…
It may have been before that.
The 'Elio Eagle' may be a problem; since "The Jeep/Eagle division of Chrysler Corporation was formed after Chrysler's 1987 buyout of American Motors Corporation", and probably still 'owns' the "EAGLE" trademark.
