I was thinking of Reserving an Elio but last time I tried, there was an issue with my Postal Code. I will try again so there can be 3 Canadians Reserving an Elio.

Would be best to drive an Elio without Helmets.

I really want to start driving My Elio.

Heck I would even be willing to test drive it in Manitoba when it is - 30' C

Oh on a side note:

Since I could not Reserve an Elio when I tried I decided to buy shares in Elio Motors. Stock name is Elio.

Bought 100 shares of Elio at $19.31USD 2 days ago and it closed today at $20.04 USD

Helmets? They have that cleared in (I think) all 50 states; no helmets are needed. (In some states, they do have age restrictions, but EM is working on that)
Driving in the -30C wouldn't really be that hard, just turn up the heater a little more; the Elio is all enclosed.

As for getting your reservation, my best suggestion would be to talk to the other Canadians that are on this Forum, and ask how they did it.
I don't know if Elio Motors would be willing to tell you since the Elio has not been approved for export yet.

(FYI: Elio Owners Forum is not affiliated with Elio Motors, we are simply a group that has similar interests in the Elio)

Thank you Coss,

I just sent Peter Beens a Private Message, asking for assistance in how to Place an All In Reserve. Hope he logs in and replies soon.

If anyone else can help me please by all means PM me with instructions.

Thank you

I think the Elio is small enough to smuggle in!!- Back in the day, doing grad work at Plattsburgh, we'd do beer runs in to Canada, and aside from a little marker on the road, you wouldn't know you crossed the border!!

WE SNUCK OUR ISETTA INTO CANADA INSIDE OUR SPRINTER VAN FOR THE MICRO NORTH CAR SHOW .
WE HAD NO TROUBLE GETTING IT INTO YOUR COUNTRY BUT HAD TO ANSWER A FEW QUESTIONS TO GET IT HOME .

Hi Peter, I've been off line for a while and just saw your post. Glad to hear that I am not the only Canadian. I'm only "all-in", not reserved yet. I am fantasizing about fighting my way through the red tape, buying one in the US and driving it home. I'm not at a point yet where I have the time to start even researching for and planning my battles. I have bought two "antique" cars from the US in the past ( a '65 Triumph Herald Convertible, and more recently an '88 Volvo 240 Wagon for my son ) and the red tape was not a big deal. This might be a whole other story though. I will let you know if I learn anything and hope you will do the same. I sure hope the Canadian dollar comes back out of the ditch before it is time to buy!

I lived in London, Ontario for 10 years and the only area that I really liked to visit and drive around was the escarpment, particularly your end of it. I wonder what the Elio's hill climbing capacity will be? On the plus side it will be light and aerodynamic, on the negative, I don't expect the engine to be very torquey.

Andrew
Actually, the engine was designed specifically to be high torque in order to deliver the gas mileage at highway speeds, keeping the revs down.
