I don't quite understand where the confusion is coming from.
The Sportage apparently has an automatic transmission (i.e. torque converter) that can be shifted manually.
The Elio, as I understand it, will have an automatically shifted (i.e. computer controlled) manual transmission.
I think this is the way it's been from the beginning.

My opinion: I've driven both as most of you have. My concern is not that but the combination of the standard Steering with the manual transmission. I remember the '63 pony Mustang. But I do have time to test drive before it becomes a hard decision.. after all look at my SIL number. ;)

I drove a 66 Toyota Celica 2 door for many years till I got rear ended and car was totalled and me pinned to steering wheel. Sore back and whiplash but I made to talk about it.

It weighed about 2,000 lbs. 1980 cc, 4 Speed Manual Tranny with Rack and Pinion Steering.

I had no troubles steering and shifting at the same time.

Just wish I had a rear view camera at the time.

My next vehicle will definitely have one as well as all around View.
