Thank you for the warm welcome, neighbor! Is Hazzard County on the other side of the river from Ceciltucky?

I emailed Elio Motors about this. They replied the following business day with the below. Thankfully it is a case of suspicions confirmed!

"Hello Frederick,
Yes, that is a mistake! The Elio will be using a timing chain instead of a belt.

Thanks,
Elio Team"

PS for the Moderators: I understand combining threads about the same topic, but why combine two new timing belt or chain threads with an existing turbocharging thread, which has since been hijacked by Ford Fiesta posts? It makes it difficult to find your own post and is otherwise confusing.

Oh thank sweet merciful Cthulhu!!

I was sincerely worried.

Welcome Scotty.
There is a whole lotta turbo talk strewn throughout this site. W. WIllie is one of the resident experts on this subject.
I like the idea of a properly sized turbo, that would both increase mpg and power. It can be done.

Like I said earlier, I have a Fiesta 1l 3cyl and it does very well on both hp and mileage. On a recent 1000 mile trip, I averaged just over 49mpg. That was at close to 75-80mph on the highway and plenty of power left to pass. I know it is not 84mpg but it is not bad. It can be done and will be offered in the future but, right now they are just trying to get the car built.

Welcome to typical thread drift; at one point in the beginning of this thread the threads that were merged were talking about the same thing; why have two or three threads talking about the same topic when they all over lap? That's why they were merged.
As for the Ford Fiesta comment; that's where the thread drift snuck in. The fiesta also has a small motor with a turbo and some very similar attributes included was the timing belt / chain with an oil bath, and the question why the Elio has a 6qt pan. All of these topics do cover the same area, but on their own, they don't have the staying power of a good discussion
6 qt. oil pan? I had missd any previous mention of this. What is the reasoning behind this? And while I'm on the subject of oil, will the Elio have an engine oil cooler? Thanks.

More oil, less heat. I still don't think that is the capacity. The next time I see the ELIO, I'll crawl underneath.
Oil cooler? Probably not needed. My G1 had a "semi " oil cooler when it was first produced, but they did away with it after a year of production.
Oil cap. on the G1 is 2.9 Qt, with filter change. It is a 1L engine also.

The Elio motor is 3 cylinder yes, but that's pretty much where the similarity ends, it's a completely new design internally; 12:1 compression, long stroke and runs on regular unleaded with no knock. The head design; including cooling and oiling are all redesigned; so taking an "off the shelf" model of turbo is not going to work. Please do a search through the forum about turbo for the Elio, this topic has had a lot of long discussions about it; and how EM plans on making it available.
