On our travels in the last week, we happened to be in Shreveport. We took a ride to the eventual Elio factory, and to say nothing is going on is an understatement.

The street used to be General Motors Blvd, but it is now something else which I don't remember, but it is NOT Elio Motors Blvd.

The gate is open allowing you to drive right up to the front door. The Elio sign is there, but seems to be turned 90 degrees so you can't see it unless you drive right up to it. I think it has always been placed that way.

There were only 2 vehicles in the parking lot, and the guard that came out to talk to us says he doesn't drive, and there was nobody in the building except him. Said the only people that ever come out there regular is the city just to see what, if anything, is going on there.

I will say this, that facility is beyond HUGE! I cannot imagine GM every pumping out enough Hummers and small trucks to justify a facility that big. There will be a large amount of space available to keep all the vendors under 1 roof, with room to spare. And that means vendors to build their products, not just store there for a "just in time" manufacturing setup.

It looked like there was a different property GM uses to store/move their pickups from the large railyard that is of course right there.

Can't say I was surprised by what we saw, or didn't see, but disappointed that there has been nothing going on to speak of. That being said, I recall that Camau said they could be up and running in 90 days, so obviously there may not be a need to be doing anything there just quite yet.

In Elio's defense, they DID say they were taking the holidays off. So, there wouldn't be much going on there. Also, the work they are doing is inside and it isn't like they are painting inside or anything like that. They'd be shuffling fixtures around and unless you were actually there watching them move those fixtures, it wouldn't look like they were doing anything.

As I recall, disappointed Caddo County Parrish Commissioners had a Summer factory tour that verified no activity. There is no reason to be doing anything in the plant based on Paul's recent delay announcement with the anticipated production schedule moved out to 2018.

The "order long lead equipment milestone" required for the "plant integration" milestone has not been met.........nor has the critical E builds, E1 Testing, and S1 production drawings been released. Does EM even have the available engines ready to drop into the E Builds?

Spend available resources on getting the E's Built and tested. EM is still in the prototype building phase according to their milestone production schedule. Produce a Prototype and THAT will produce the public or private VC interest critical for production. EM's current daily operating funds is based on reservation deposits.

In Elio's defense? EM really needs to show us something......tangible milestones.......rather than tired old marketing strategy.

Yes. In Elio's defense. A casual stop by the factory when all the workers are off for the holidays won't look like much - as expected. It's not like KD was going to see new paint on the building, nice landscaping, etc. All the "progress" is inside the building and would amount to machinery being positioned differently. COMAU was supposed to be helping with setting up the factory, if I recall correctly.

Plus as mentioned, that building is massive, whats wrong with parking near the place you're working, rather than park outside and walk all that way.
