How about just get another radio that has a pop out screen and then install a backup camera? There are a number of units that do this and not that expensive. Just go to Crutchfield and they have lots of options.
And lets all go through the dash argument again; I mean we almost had a war over the Elgin Cluster vs. Analog, and analog finally won, what did that take? Umm 3 years? And now we want to start it again with pull out the Analog, and put a digital screen in it. Yeah, that's got to be good for at least another 3 years if not more...... NO, the logical side thinks the digital should be cheap, it's not. Building a digital screen that will fit that same small space is expensive, not because of the parts, but because of the developers to lay it out. And that program it to do what it's supposed to. What about repairs? What do you do? You take it out, and drop a new one in? Yeah, that sounds right, labor to reprogram it? Well you shouldn't have to right? What if you do? And then set the "brain" up to correct the problem.
The idea may sound right, but in reality it doesn't work that way.

Sorry. I assumed that the Elio had a single DIN radio in it and you could buy the $200 single DIN radio from Crtuchfield that had a pop out screen. Then mount the $50 backup camera from Crutchfield. After that, just use a $1 toggle switch or just hook it up to the reverse light. Then you'd have a backup camera/rear view camera. I didn't realize that it was going to be impossible because it was way too expensive to do and required developers and things like that. I was just looking at off the shelf components.

Yawn. Again. That engineering study could've been done years ago, in about 10 minutes.

I don't want to be negative, but I've pretty well run out of things to be positive about.
Then I don't think you know much about engineering. You can't set the mirror sight lines until the window shape and side aero profile is set. It means they are close to final on the side panels and overall profile.

Since when does Crutchfield have cheap items? They have a lot of nice EXPENSIVE items, and I have shown other people where you shop through Crutchfield, then buy at either eBay or Amazon, so I will argue where that generalization into the ground before you find something cheaper at Crutchfield then you do anywhere else. Would you like me to prove it to you too? Geez I thought you were better then that.

I used to believe that too, but just before Christmas I was in the market for a new head unit, wiring harness, dash trim, steering wheel control module, and subwoofer (speaker alone) for my car. I priced the parts with several online retailers including Amazon Prime, Sonic Electronix, and Parts Express. The cheapest by about $20 ended up being Crutchfield! This was due to the sale price on that particular head unit (Sony MEX-XB100BT), free shipping, and throwing in the wiring harness and dash trim for free.

They used to be really overpriced but I am finding that for some items they are getting more competitive. That does NOT mean they are cheap, just competitive one some items. Others they still upcharge.

I was wondering if my Hercules blind spot mirrors will fit on the Elio outside mirrors? Oklahoma driver school recommended them for my daughter who has a DL permit. I got them for my Kia Forte and they work great. If they can be attached to Elio, then maybe I can eliminate blind spot detectors. I still would like the HUD for my TruBlue.
