We carried a lot of bad alliances. We should have done better, but that's the game!

Another big weekend! 4th in qualifications. Got picked by 3rd alliance, even though we told him that we were gonna say no. We wanted to save embarrassment. He picked us anyway (go figure). We said no. We formed our own alliance and won it all! Also won an award for our autonomous modes. It showed VERY well! Three cubes on the scale in auto. Other alliance could never recover.
Very proud of these kids. Headed to District Championships in MD at the end of the month.

A great weekend for us as well in Waterbury, CT. We seeded #1 in qualifications and went on to take the tournament with a record of 18-0-0. We have another district event next weekend and from there it's on to our district championship in Boston.

Very true. With your scale and our autonomous and exchange, we'd be tough to beat. We had like 4 matches where I basically told our 3rd alliance partner to simply stay out of our way. (Hopefully in the other team's way)
We won lots of matches with only two decent bots.

How did you possibly get on alliances where you got the ranking point in auto EVERY TIME? We were with multiple teams that couldn't drive forward to give us that point.

We didn't - we got only 2 ranking points in Q9 and Q21. By later in the day we had visited all of our future alliance partners. If they could already drive in autonomous, great. If not, our programming team worked with them to be sure they could by match time.
A lot of things fell in place for us and the machine stayed together pretty well overall. It also helps that our drive base is within an inch in all dimensions of last years and mecanum drive like last year so the kid driving was very comfortable with it. He also figured out he can get more points drawing fouls in the null zone than by manipulation cubes. He drew 7 tech fouls in one match (Q44)!
